Knowledge Management and Special Projects Branch
The Knowledge Management and Special Projects Branch (KMSPB) within the Center for Strategic Scientific Initiatives manages the reporting of the NCI-funded portfolio. KMSPB advocates for the completeness and accuracy of National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports to Congress and the public. KMSPB is a centralized hub that:
- collaborates closely with colleagues within NCI financial offices and scientific programs, as well as NIH-wide stakeholders to provide feedback and recommendations for reporting improvements and strives for enhancements in data quality to better inform portfolio analysis efforts
- manages the public reporting of the NCI-funded portfolio of grant, intramural, and contract projects in official NCI and NIH reporting initiatives
- advocates for the completeness and accuracy of the NCI-funded portfolio in NIH reports to Congress and the public
KMSPB Managed Programs
NIH Research, Condition, and Disease Categorization (RCDC)
As the lead for official NIH Research, Condition, and Disease Categorization (RCDC) reporting of NCI-funded projects, KMSPB:
- facilitates the development of trans-NIH definitions used to classify research into reporting categories
- conducts annual reviews of research categorized using the NIH RCDC methodology
- identifies emerging and underfunded areas of research by leveraging RCDC data for portfolio analyses
NCI Funded Research Portfolio (NFRP)
KMSPB manages the NCI Funded Research Portfolio (NFRP) website and database to ensure the completeness, timeliness, and accuracy of scientific funding data.
