NCI Equity Council and Working Groups

The council is comprised of a diverse group of leaders from across NCI with a passion and commitment to:

  • ensuring NCI has a robust research portfolio to effectively address cancer disparities,
  • nurturing a workforce at all career levels that is representative of all the people we serve, and
  • cultivating and ensuring a community at NCI that is diverse in thought and representation, including at leadership levels across the institute.

Equity Council serves as a coordinating body for NCI’s Equity and Inclusion Program. The EC will focus on strategic planning and priority setting for the development and implementation of efforts associated with advancing racial equity and social justice in cancer health disparities research, training and the NCI workforce.

Equity Council Working Groups

Enhancing Research to Address Cancer Health Disparities Working Group develops research priority recommendations for NCI to improve the understanding and reduction of cancer-related health disparities.

Ensuring Diversity of Thought and Background in the Cancer Research Workforce Working Group enhances NCI’s efforts to develop a diverse and balanced cancer workforce by enhancing current research training efforts at all levels and identifying new approaches to support and sustain representation of underrepresented groups (URG) in the intramural and extramural workforce.

Promoting an Equitable and Inclusive Community at NCI Working Group facilitates a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture within NCI by identifying and implementing transparent and equitable recruitment, retention, recognition, promotion, and other organizational processes.

Systematic Tracking and Evaluation of Equity Activities Working Group develops metrics as part of their proposals, which will be reviewed and supported by the Equity Council

Communications and Outreach for Equity Activities Working Group provides strategic guidance and coordinates the implementation of the communications and outreach activities of the Equity Council Steering Committee and Working Groups.
