Yelena Shnayder, M.H.S.
Yelena Shnayder, M.H.S., joined the NCI Center for Global Health (CGH) in 2015. As a Public Health Analyst in the Research and Training Branch, she leads the NCI-wide technical review of visa waiver applications for international scientists conducting research at NCI-Designated Cancer Centers. Ms. Shnayder is involved in various research training and evaluation initiatives led by CGH. From 2017-2019, Ms. Shnayder led the global segment of the NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention. During her tenure, Yelena enhanced involvement of trainees from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in the program and added training modalities to address the specific needs of the LMIC community.
Before joining CGH, Ms. Shnayder served as an International Health Analyst in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Global Health Affairs. In this capacity, she spearheaded health-related programs, initiatives, and briefings in the Europe and Eurasia regions. Yelena also managed the Biotechnology Engagement Program, a Department of State sponsored non-proliferation initiative that involved 27 collaborative projects on vector- and food-borne diseases, between institutes in the Commonwealth of Independent States and various U.S. HHS agencies.
Ms. Shnayder's professional interests revolve around breast cancer screening and early diagnosis, integrative oncology with an emphasis on dietary interventions for breast cancer prevention, and exploring cancer through the lens of metabolic disease. She holds a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a Master’s in health science from Towson University.
