Global Health Catalyst Summit - Lancet Commissions for Global Health Impact
May 4, 2023 | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
University of Pennsylvania Irvine Auditorium, 3401 Spruce Street Philadelphia, PA, USA
Dr. Ophira Ginsburg will preview the Lancet Commission on Women and Cancer during the "Meet the Press: Lancet Commissions for Global Health Impact" session on day 1 of the Global Health Catalyst (GHC) Summit. Dedicated to catalyzing high-impact international collaborations and initiatives to eliminate health disparities in the USA and globally, the Summit's theme is "Cancer Moonshot 2.0: win-win collaborations to extend the Cancer Moonshot globally."
When President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden reignited the Cancer Moonshot in February 2022, they set ambitious, achievable goals: to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years and improve the experience of people and families living with and surviving cancer, ultimately ending cancer as we know it today. They called for everyone to do their part including federal agencies and departments, private companies, health care providers, patient groups, philanthropies, and more. While the immediate goals are domestic, the ambitions of the Cancer Moonshot extend far beyond the borders of the United States, especially as the burden of cancer falls heavily to lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where 80% of global cancer deaths occur. International work as part of the Cancer Moonshot is focused on equity and collaboration, thereby increasing access to prevention, screening, treatment, and care for everyone facing a cancer diagnosis and their families around the world. The Theme of the summit is focused on catalyzing win-win collaborations to extend the Cancer Moonshot globally, for global health and development benefiting both the USA and LMICs.
