A total of 32.7% of people with advanced cancer filled a prescription for any opioid in 2019. Compared with White patients, Black patients were 4.3 percentage points less likely and Hispanic patients were 3.6 percentage points less likely to receive any opioids during the 12 years studied (from 2007 to 2019). A total of 9.4% of people with advanced cancer filled a prescription for long-acting opioids in 2019. Compared with White patients, Black patients were 3.1 percentage points less likely and Hispanic patients were 2.2 percentage points less likely to receive long-acting opioids during the 12 years studies.
