Functional Medicine Intervention in Improving Wound Healing in Patients Undergoing Breast Reconstruction

Trial Status: administratively complete

This clinical trial studies the effect of functional medicine in improving wound healing in patients undergoing breast reconstruction. Functional medicine relies on a root cause approach to identify triggers for illness-e.g. poor diet, stress, toxins, allergens, infections, the microbiome, and genetics-while optimizing factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, relationships and community. Functional medicine's primary therapeutic intervention is the use of 'food as medicine' complemented by lifestyle and behavioral interventions to assist patients in a achieving optimal health. Functional medicine may improve wound healing and decrease post-surgery complications in patients undergoing breast reconstruction.
