The NCI Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities is pleased to share exciting news about an Early Investigator Advancement Program (EIAP) scholar—Edjah Nduom, M.D., FAANS—who was appointed by President Biden to the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB) on May 10, 2024.

Dr. Nduom’s roles include serving as the Daniel Louis Barrow Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery and as an associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine. He serves as leader of the Brain Tumor Disease Team at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. A recognized neurosurgical oncologist, Dr. Nduom received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed residency in neurological surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Furthermore, he completed research fellowships at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Nduom has expertise in the management of brain and spinal cord tumors, with a research agenda focused on immune therapy for the treatment of malignant brain tumors. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Academy Emerging Investigator from the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and a National Institutes of Health Director’s Award. He is a 2023 EIAP scholar who recently received his first R01 in glioblastoma research.

The NCAB complements the Cancer Moonshot and provides guidance to the NCI Director in setting the course for the national cancer research program. Dr. Nduom is among four new leaders appointed to the NCAB. This is the second time an EIAP scholar has been appointed to NCAB—in February 2023, President Biden appointed EIAP scholar Dr. Fred Tabung, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Ohio State University College of Public Health. Congratulations to Dr. Nduom on his appointment.

EIAP is a trans-NCI program that aims to assist cancer researchers and clinician scientists to attain an R01 or R-type equivalent funding. Learn more on the EIAP webpage.
